Superintendent's Message

Posted Date: 04/08/2021

Hello Parents,

What an amazing year this has been! We were one of the very first school districts in the nation to open for 5-day-a-week, in-person instruction. We are still among a very few districts throughout the entire U.S. that are offering full-time, in-class instruction, all sports, and almost all extra-curricular activities for students. It has been, and still is, our belief that in-person learning is what is best for students, and we have used that as our primary focus.

Our hope is to end this school year on a positive note for our students. We only have six more weeks of instruction left in the school year.

You have probably seen or heard about an effort to unmask our students on April 10th. Our State Legislature, working together with the Governor and the health department, has been very clear that the mask mandate for all public schools in Utah continues until June 15th.

We will continue to follow the state masking mandate. We do not want to jeopardize any of our remaining education opportunities, athletic events, dances, performances, or graduation with the possibility of having to go to remote learning. Our concern is that if large numbers of students come to school without masks, it could force us into a “soft closure” or remote learning for the end of the 2021 school year. What a disappointment this would be for us all.

Please remember that the hardest part is behind us, and we are grateful for your support so far this school year. We are now asking for your continued support; not for us, but for your children. Please give them the opportunity to finish this school year on a positive note and make the end of the 2021 school year better than the end of the last school year.

Sincerely,

Doug Jacobs
