Teacher request for clickers from the Trust Land funds

Tammi Niederhauser and Debbie Rees presented information on clickers, which are used for electronic testing in classrooms.  The school is currently using them, but teachers would like to use Trust Land funds to purchase an additional 60 clickers.  They are currently being offered to the school at 50% off, $700 per 30.  Michelle Lyman will check the PTSO funds to see if they can contribute to the purchase.

The Huntsman Awards for Excellence in Education

Nominations for Huntsman Awards for Excellence in Education are currently being accepted.  Contact the front office if you are interested in submitting a nomination.

Common Core Discussion

Utah has joined a group of over 40 states and territories to adopt a common curriculum, called the Common Core State Standards.  This is a state, not a federal, initiative that will standardize curricula across these states.  Mountain Green Elementary will begin using the Common Core State Standards for Language Arts the 2011-2012 school year and the Math Standards the following year.  More information about the initiative and standards can be found at the following websites:

Round Robin

School Lunch Program – Shana Croft and Courtney Wallin met with Roxanne Rich, District Food Services Supervisor, to discuss the school lunch program.  The school lunch menu is determined largely by available funding, commodities from the federal government, and within the constraints of federal guidelines.  Federal guidelines have recently changed and how those changes will affect the school lunch program has yet to be determined.  Discussion will be ongoing.  In addition, a new yogurt was recently introduced to the school, and possible implementation is still being discussed.

The meeting was adjourned.
